Since the advent of real-time computer music environments, composers have increasingly incorporated DSP analysis, synthesis, and processing algorithms in their creative practices. Those processes became part of interactive systems that use real-time computational tools in musical compositions that explore diverse techniques to generate, spatialize, and process instrumental/vocal sounds. Parallel to the development of these tools and the expansion of DSP methods, new techniques focused on sound/musical information extraction became part of the tools available for music composition. In this context, this article discusses the creative use of Machine Listening and Musical Information Retrieval techniques applied in the composition of live-electronics works. By pointing out some practical applications and creative approaches, we aim to circumscribe, in a general way, the strategies for employing Machine Listening and Music Information Retrieval techniques observed in a set of live-electronics pieces, categorizing four compositional approaches, namely: mapping, triggering, scoring, and procedural paradigms of application of machine listening techniques in the context of live-electronics music compositions

Some Compositional Approaches in the Practice of live-electronic music from the perspective of technique and technological tools

Tools and their technical frameworks impact directly the compositional processes, thus, placing itself as an element of fundamental importance, either in the conception of poetic ideas and images or in the technical realization of a work. In this sense, the present work aims to discuss some aspects of the correlation between technics, poetics, aesthetics, and musical writing in the context of interactive/live-electronics music. This takes place from a dialogue between the ideas of authors and composers, such as Gilbert Simondon, Helmut Lachenmann, and Pierre Boulez about technical frameworks and their implications in musical practice. Thus, we aim to discuss the interrelation between technological devices, musical elements, and poetic images, which are established within the compositional process. These reflections will serve as a theoretical field to introduce and describe some characteristics about compositional thinking of two-piece: "Espasmos" (2017), for trombone and live-electronics, by Vinicius Cesar, and "Caminhos que Levam" (2018), for clarinet and live-electronics, by Thales Roel

Berio via Pousseur e Costère: Uma proposta de análise de Sequenza VII e Chemins IV

    Get PDF

Wood product manufacturing involves many dangerous activities and a high incidence of work-related accidents. The objective of this study was to analyze registered and unregistered work accidents, as well as the most frequent type and rate increase over the years for different activities of wood product manufacture in Brazil. Total accidents were counted including both unregistered and registered accidents. The accidents were classified as either a typical accident, a commuting accident or occupational diseases. Evaluated production was subdivided into sawmill operations, manufacture of laminated wood and plywood, wood-derived pressed and agglomerated sheets, and furniture with a predominance of wood. Wood production presented 2,849,470 direct jobs. For the furniture manufacturing sub-sector, there was an increase in the growth rate for direct jobs. However, there was a greater number of total accidents and an increase in the rate of number of accidents over time. For sawmills and the manufacture of laminated wood and slabs, there was a decreasing trend in the rate of direct jobs and accidents. Of the total number of accidents, more than 20% were not reported. The primary accident incidence was the typical accident (88.3%), followed by commuting accidents (9.5%) and lastly occupational diseases (2.1%)

In the North Plateau of Santa Catarina state, Brazil, there is little information about the mineralogical composition of the soils and a few soil profiles were described and characterized in the region. The two generalized soil maps of Santa Catarina indicate predominance of Inceptisols, Entisols and Oxisols, with hydromorphic soils occupying areas of floodplains. These soils occur in relief from plane to strong wavy, where small and medium rural farmers develop diversified crops, with significant areas with pine reforestation. This work aimed to increase the knowledge of the mineralogical and chemical properties of some of these soils developed from sedimentary rocks of different geological formations. Five soil profiles were described and sampled, included one oxisol and four Inceptisols. In fine earth, physical (sand, silt, clay) and chemical analyzes were performed (pH in water, organic carbon, Ca2+, Mg, K, Na, Al, H + Al) and based on these attributes was calculated effective CEC, CEC at pH7, sum of bases and base saturation. Mineralogical analyzes were conducted in the clay fraction of the B horizon of each soil, using X-ray diffraction techniques. All soils showed very acid reaction, with low sum of bases and base saturation and high levels of organic carbon and exchangeable Al. The clay mineralogy revealed predominance of kaolinite in all soils, with considerable amounts of gibbsite, and vermiculite with hydroxy-Al interlayered.

BACKGROUND: Sedentary behavior and physical inactivity may increase the risk of obesity. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate: i) the prevalence/incidence of sedentary behavior and physical inactivity, ii) the association of sedentary behavior and physical inactivity with obesity, and iii) the objective and subjective measures, diagnostic criteria, and cut-off points to estimate sedentary behavior and physical inactivity in adults and older adults with obesity. METHODS: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis in PubMed, Scielo, Lilacs, and Cochrane Library databases. A meta-analysis of a random-effects model was performed to estimate the combined prevalence of sedentary behavior and physical inactivity and their association with obesity. RESULTS: Twenty-three studies involving 638,000 adults and older adults were included in the systematic review. A meta-analysis was conducted with 111,851 individuals with obesity. The combined prevalence of sedentary behavior was 31% (95% CI, 23-41%), and physical inactivity was 43% (95% CI, 31-55%). Significant associations between obesity and sedentary behavior (OR 1.45, 95% CI, 1.21-1.75) and physical inactivity (OR 1.52, 95% CI, 1.23-1.87) were found. Nine studies have used objective measures to assess physical activity levels, such as accelerometers and pedometers, whereas fourteen applied subjective methods and self-reported questionnaires. CONCLUSIONS: As expected, we found elevated rates of sedentary behavior and physical inactivity in individuals with obesity and a positive risk association. The wide range of objective and subjective measures, methods and cut-offs resulted in great variations of physical inactivity and sedentary behavior estimates. FOREST PRODUCTION WORK SAFETY ABSTRACT: The objective of this paper is to analyze the direct employment and work accidents that occurred in forest production, in plantations, native and support activities. For each activity, in the period from 2006 to 2014, the number of direct jobs, total, registered, typical, commuting and work-related accidents and unrecorded accidents were recorded. Trend models were calculated for the calculation of the annual growth rates of direct jobs and work accidents. Pearson's linear correlation was used to explain the relationship between the number of direct jobs and the accidents of forestry production. The number of direct jobs generated in plantation and native production has increased over the past 8 years. Only for the sector of support activities has the workforce declined. Among the accidents recorded, the planted had, on average, the largest number of accidents, followed by activities of support and production of natives. Many accidents occurred are not communicated, giving damage to the injured in claiming their rights. Of the accidents recorded the main type corresponds to the typical accident. Strong correlations were found between direct jobs and total accidents for planted forests and support activities. Keywords: direct jobs; accidents; productive chain
